Located in northern Peru, high in the Amazonian Andes, this coffee comes from the Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros Juan Marco El Palto (JUMARP), known simply as El Palto. Established in 2003 with just 35 small farmers, the cooperative has grown to include 189 dedicated members who cultivate exceptional specialty coffee across approximately 550 hectares of lush terrain.

It is long thought that the coffee plant to be roasted was  in Ethiopia, where coffee is more than an income producing crop and is part of a long lasting culture. Coffee is Ethiopia’s main export commodity, contributing to the livelihoods of more than 15 million farmers and sector workers.
This coffee grown in the Oromia zone on family farms and is processed in a local cooperative. The traditional processing method provides a truly remarkable naturally processed coffee.

Empowering Communities Through Coffee

Among the 189 cooperative members, 40 are women farmers who play vital roles in leadership and production. Female members are represented on the El Palto Cooperative Board of Directors, ensuring equal participation and opportunity. The cooperative’s mission focuses on increasing both production and profitability, helping each family improve their livelihoods through the craft of specialty coffee.
